49-year-old Magog man drowned while swimming at Lac Fraser in Orford

MAGOG — A 49-year-old man from Magog apparently drowned at Lac Fraser in Orford today.


On Tuesday, at around 11:45 a.m. in Orford, officers of the Memphremagog Police Authority were called to the scene at a beach on Lac Fraser, where a man was unconscious.

According to a witness, the man was attempting to swim to a rock in the water located about 100 meters away from shore, when he stopped swimming and start to sink.

The witness who accompanied shouted for help while trying to keep the man out of the water.

A boater passing by rescued the man by bringing him to shore.

From there a lifeguard and a citizen began resuscitation maneuvers that continued to the arrival of the ambulance and police.

The man was taken to the hospital in Magog where his death was confirmed.

Police say they have contacted the coroner’s office and are working to determine the exact cause of death.
